Dosage Plan
Here are some essential tips to maximize your tanning results!
Know Your Skin Type
Understand your skin type and its sensitivity to UV exposure. Different skin types require different tanning durations and frequencies. Fair skin might need shorter sessions with lower UV intensity, while darker skin may tolerate longer exposure.
Exfoliate Before Tanning
Prepare your skin by exfoliating 24 hours before your sunbed session. Removing dead skin cells helps create a smooth, even surface, allowing for a more consistent tan that lasts longer. Use a gentle exfoliator to avoid irritating your skin.
Moisturize Your Skin
Well-hydrated skin tans better and retains color longer. Apply a light, oil-free moisturizer before your session, and continue to moisturize daily to keep your skin soft, supple, and healthy. Avoid products with heavy oils before tanning, as they can block UV light absorption.
Use a Sunbed Tanning
Sunbeds creams not only keep your skin moisturised while tanning but also intensify the production of melanin for a darker tan. There is a great number of sunbed creams, varying from moisturisers and coolers to bronzers and creams with tingle factors. All these products are specifically formulated in a way that enables you to tan faster and get a darker colour as they are specially formulated to stimulate melanin production. Make sure you use products suitable for your skin type. If you are a beginner tanner, avoid some of those products such as bronzers and tingle .
No Makeup or Other Products
Make-up and other cosmetics can block the pores of your skin as well as the UV rays for penetrating it. What is more, many people claim that they have noticed white spots on their skin when they tried to tan wearing makeup or other cosmetics. No to mention that cosmetics may contain some ingredients that can react to UV light. This can make the skin more sensitive causing allergies or other adverse effects. For this reason, it is preferable to have a shower prior to tanning or use make up removal wipes to remove any forms of make-up, perfume or cosmetic and keep your skin completely clean.
Protect Sensitive Areas
Use a lip balm with SPF to protect your lips, and cover sensitive areas like your face or tattoos with a towel or sunscreen if needed. Consider using a tanning bonnet to protect your hair from UV damage.
Wear Protective Eyewear
Always wear goggles designed for tanning beds to protect your eyes from harmful UV radiation. Never tan without proper eye protection, as UV rays can cause serious damage, including cataracts and vision problems.
Start Slowly and Build Gradually
If you are new to sunbed tanning, start with shorter sessions and gradually increase the time as your skin builds tolerance. Avoid overexposure, which can lead to burns, peeling, or long-term skin damage. Allow at least 48 hours between sessions for your skin to recover.
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water before and after your tanning session. UV exposure can dehydrate your skin, so staying hydrated helps maintain your skin’s moisture levels, making your tan last longer and look more radiant.
Don’t Overdo It
Limit your sunbed use to prevent overexposure to UV radiation. Most professionals recommend a maximum of 2-3 sessions per week. Overusing sunbeds can increase your risk of premature aging, skin damage, and skin cancer.
Use After-Tan Care Products
After your session, apply a soothing, hydrating after-tan lotion to replenish moisture and calm the skin. Look for products with aloe vera, vitamin E, or antioxidants to help extend the life of your tan and keep your skin healthy.
Be Consistent but Safe
Maintain a consistent tanning schedule to build and maintain your desired tan, but always prioritize your skin's health. Listen to your body, and if you experience any discomfort, redness, or irritation, take a break from tanning.
By following these tips, you can achieve a beautiful, long-lasting tan while keeping your skin safe and healthy!
