WHAT ARE SUNBEDS?
A sunbed, also known as a tanning bed is a device that emits ultraviolet(UV) radiation to produce a cometic tan by stimulating sunlight.Sunbeds ude specialized sunlight. Sunbeds use speclizsed lamps or bulbs that emit both UVA and UVB rays, which penetrate the skin and trigger the production of melanin, the pigment repressible for tanning. A typical sunbed emits 95% of UVA and only 5% of UVB, although some newer models on the market only produce UVA where UVB rays are considered carcinogenic, as where they have come up with a seris of filters that seem to elimiate the UVB rays and make the bed safer
HOW DO THEY WORK?
The skin's top layer which is called the epidermis contains melanocytes which are cell that produce melanin when stimulated with UV light. when you lay or stand in a subed the lamps stimulate the melanocytes to produce melanin, which appears as a dark pigment on the epidermis. The melanain is produced by your body as a way to protect you from further sun exposure. The Longer the exposure to the uv rays, the more melanin that gets stimulated.
